Roland Restaurant

Kein Singapore-Trip ohne Crab.

Stepping into this restaurant, located above a public car park, feels like a trip back to the 80s. The decor perfectly captures the nostalgic charm of that era, and the spacious layout adds to the relaxed ambiance. The menu features the famous chili crab and a variety of traditional Chinese dishes, all served at reasonable prices. The service is efficient, with minimal wait times for the food. Overall, it’s a delightful dining experience that combines nostalgia, flavor, and value.

Roland Restaurant in Singapore offers an exceptional dining experience with its delicious food and impeccable service, both deserving of a solid 5* rating. The menu boasts a delightful array of dishes that never fail to impress. The atmosphere, though pleasant with a commendable 4* rating, adds to the overall dining pleasure. However, reaching the restaurant can be a challenge, as it is tucked away and may require assistance from locals for navigation. Despite this inconvenience, Roland Restaurant remains a top choice for those seeking exquisite cuisine and attentive service in Singapore

Roland is very much neighbourhood chinese dim sum cum seafood restaurant. As far as I heard, they were part of the group to invent Chilli Crab. We normally go there to enjoy our Sunday family dim sum with a reservation. Will definitely try it's chilli crab next time.

Food was unappetizing. Seafood seem to be dry and masked by strong seasoning. Not worth the hype of being the creator of chilli crab

I love the old school vibes here! Traditional Chinese restaurant set in the 80s! This place has been around since 1956, and the food is great! Service is also good! Love the chilli crab here and they are apparently the creators of this iconic dish! We had Buddha jump over the wall soup, baby kailan, chilli crab with mantou, and a fried mee sua. What a memorable and amazing experience! Will definitely be back again soon! We also got to say hi and bye to the friendly founder and owner on our way out!

Food was ok....stick to their promo offers for crabs instead of trying to order from their menu. We ordered 2 crab from the menu because the promo of $88 for 2 crab at each 500gm only, as we were told by the waiter. We ordered 2 crabs at 1.3 kg each but when the crab was served, the crab was seemingly smaller.Of course perception is individual but it just leaves a bad impression on the restaurant.

A bit difficult to find but we took a bus here and it's at the top of a parking building a little ways from the bus stop approx 200mWent to the OG place for crab apparently. Called to make a reservation but there were plenty of seats.Old school canto banquet dining experience.Really really good crab and other foods. Reasonably priced in our opinion but have not compared this with other crab places around Singapore

This was the first time I tried Chili Crab here, from a friend’s recommendation.Well, this is a typical Chinese setup restaurant (as seen on photos 4 & 5). So nothing fancy, good old same table cloth using from customers to customer. The crabs were super fresh, tender, sweet, crunchy. And the chili sauce is good, not too salty, sweet, or spicy. But I wish the set would be served with bread instead of us have to order deep fried bún on the side.I was so enthusiastic eating almost 60% of the dish to realize a piece of hair was buried in the sauce 🤢🤮 (photo 3) . You could imagine how grossed I felt. And that just ruined the whole experience. At the end, after the complain, the management replace a new one, but you know, I didn’t finish dinning feeling great, like wow anymore.

Coming from the US, I thought our Chinese restaurants were all just remnants from the by 80s, but now I see the design is consistent no matter where you go. Don't expect some hip fancy atmosphere, this place is at the top of a parking garage and all about the food. This was my first time having Chili Crab and I definitely want more. The only thing it was missing was a baguette or some really good bread to dip in the sauce... The only bread option was basically doughnuts which got the job done, but weren't quite right for slopping up that delicious chili crab sauce. We also had the best honey glazed pork ribs I've ever had.

Old school ambience, friendly staff all round. Had chilli crab- slightly different style from other restaurants, sauce a little more gooey, however has nice balance with tart sensation on palate with sweetness. Also ordered crispy squid, which was a bit too much coated with sauce. Roast duck is lovely with a crisp skin, standard remains good over the years. Can get crowded on Sundays, with only 1 lift serving entire multistorey carpark plus the restaurant on level 6.

So was asked to visit this place by my brother, as it is supposed to be the original chilly crab place.I landed up here at around 2pm, and it was almost closing time I guess. So please come early. Luckily they were courteous enough to give me a table.Ordered the chilly crabs ofcourse. You get 2 in a portion. And then the fight was on.. crackinv the claws and polishing off the meat. The sauce was nice, perhaps a little bit too sweet for my taste... specially since it's supposed to be chilly crabs. But yes really enjoyed it.

Service and food were ok. Pork ribs were quite ordinary. Liked the fried yam ring and sambal potato leaf. Chili crab was not very spicy and rather decent in size. Reserve in advance as restaurant is popular during weekends.

Roland is a landmark in Marine Parade. It hails from the old schools masters that perfected Yu Sheng and chili crabs. It has been years since I last visited Roland. I am thankful that it survived the pandemic. I was invited by some dear friends for a dim sum lunch today. I have forgotten that it served d dim during lunch! Roland is situated on the 6th floor. Visiting Roland is like taking a ride in a time machine. The decorations and ambience brought me back to the 70s and 80s. Good times and good memories. The restaurant is spacious and bright. The customer service is good especially Roland himself. The boss is attentive to the customers. He is the epitome of great customer service! We had a dim sum galore today. The glutinous rice with chicken is good. Comes in a pair and it is delicious. We also had the char siew bao - a quintessential favorite and it is ok. The rest of the dim sum followed:- chicken feet, fried yam, har gow and siu mai! Every dish is a delight. I also ordered the chili crab sauce with fried man tou. This is my best and brought me to food nirvana. The sauce is sweet and sour and infused to chili. If it is dinner, I would have ordered their signature chili crabs. The desert did not disappoint. I had the red bean paste while my wife had the Orh Nee. Overall experience is positive. Today’s visit is a reminder to me to visit Roland more regularly. The old school feel and awesome food harken me back to the 70s. It is like a entering into a epicurean dream that is borne ceaselessly back into the past.

Sehr gutes Restaurant fu00fcr Chilli-Crab und wohl auch anderen Chinesischen Gerichten. Liegt etwas ungewohnt im obersten Stockwerk eines Parkhauses.
